60 in the Motor City

All Roads Lead to Revelry

Project Overview

Fasten your seatbelts! We put the pedal to the metal for this Motor City 60th birthday bash at the new, highly anticipated Shinola Hotel. A Detroit native, Alex envisioned returning to her roots to reminisce on everything in her rearview and to celebrate all the adventures that lay ahead. We packed the car-inspired card and coordinating party pieces with her bright personality and love for her hometown.

Honk if you Love Birthdays

The Detroit destination drove the direction of this design, sparking the rearview mirror invite (complete with hanging car dice), an itinerary roadmap and a license plate logo. When guests caught a glimpse of themselves in the reflective paper, clever copy wittily reminded them that objects in the mirror are OLDER than they appear.

Changing Course

A circular die-cut menu shaped like a speedometer spun on a grommet-fastened dial, allowing guests to accelerate and feast their eyes on the upcoming courses. Plus, all of the tables featured hand-lettered place cards, a custom add-on that complemented the hand-calligraphed escort cards and invitation envelopes.

Global Positioning Stationery

The trifold vintage map insert served as a detailed Detroit guide. It pinpointed Alex’s favorite places to eat, attractions to see and activities to do, giving out-of-town guests a good feel for all that the auto city had to offer.

Automatic Amusement

Life is a highway, and Alex had it her way all night long! A raffle, limbo competition, live Motown band and operatic rendition of “Happy Birthday” fueled the fun and kept partygoers entertained throughout the evening.
