Holiday Address List Tips & Tricks

The careful hanging of stockings, the last-minute shopping, the nonstop party hopping – the most wonderful time of the year is hectic enough without having to worry about updating your mailing address list.

To help you avoid that unnecessary headache and ensure your holiday card experience runs smoothly during the height of the hustle and bustle, we’re sharing some routine maintenance for your mailing list.

  1. Right the Return to Sender Wrongs
Nothing puts a damper on the happiness and cheer like finding one of the beautiful season’s greetings you sent back in your own mailbox. Make note of any holiday cards that were returned to you and reach out to those individuals to confirm their address. You don’t want to leave any of your friends or family feeling forgotten.
  2. Sharing is Preparing
Team up to make the task more manageable. Format your list as a shared file and give editing access to the person or people – your partner, personal assistant, PIC – whose help you need to maintain it.
  3. New Contact Consistency is Key
Keeping your list in shape is an ongoing effort, but even a little bit of updating at a time goes a long way come the holidays. Get in the habit of adding addresses as you make new friends or connections, whether that be at school socials, extracurricular activities, work events, etc.
  4. Summer Assignment: Stay Ahead of the Curve
Set some time aside during the summer season to think about the holiday season. Embrace the Christmas in July spirit, turn up a festive playlist and assess the entirety of your list, asking yourself:
    • Is there anyone to add? To remove?
    • Has anyone moved or changed their primary residence?
    • Has anyone gotten married or divorced? Deceased?

Don’t wait until December to get this holiday card heavy lifting out of the way! Your future self will thank you for it when you can focus fully on the joys of the season rather than stressing about addressing delays.
