Project Overview
Year after year, Cheree Berry Paper & Design choreographed compelling designs for the American Ballet Theatre’s Fall and Spring Galas. With fresh, custom visuals that cast a commanding spotlight on both the season’s feature performance and the greater repertoire of classical dancing, we upheld ABT’s commitment to blending artistry, tradition and innovation.

Choreographed Colorblock
For its 2019 Fall Gala, ABT envisioned a vibrant, energetic and dynamic aesthetic. We took cues from the season’s costumes and choreography and interpreted the “eye-catching, unique shapes and compositions showcasing the raw power and excitement of choreographed movement” in paper. The four-layered design featured die-cut bottom edges that aligned to form active angles of color. Secured by a grommet, the layers rotated and fanned out, mirroring a dancer’s complex, graceful motion.
Theme and Variations
Each event introduces a new theme and a new challenge for our team. Whether employing intricate handwork, luxurious printing methods or unique formats, we translate that theme in a refreshing and conceptually captivating way. For the 2018 Spring Gala, we alluded to dancers and their pointe shoes by wrapping a hand-tied porcelain blue ribbon around the invitation. We’ve also embraced the evening’s performances and color palettes and transformed them into the main motif. For the 2018 Fall Gala we emphasized the jazzy red, black and white striped palette with a painted edge.
Presentation on Pointe
The American Ballet Theatre dancers took center stage on the 2017 Fall Gala invitation amidst the juxtaposition of photographic fall botanicals and sketch detailing. The invite opened from its center by way of a gatefold to create a dramatic entrée, while layered lettering shone a spotlight on the custom corporate monogram.
