Project Overview
When the pandemic upended its original in-person gala plans, the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival questioned whether the event was to be or not to be. In order to toast its 20th anniversary and raise essential funds, the nonprofit adjusted and organized a virtual gala (quickly). With a bespoke box delivered to attendees’ doors, we helped increase excitement and anticipation and promoted its “Arts for all” motto anywhere and everywhere.

Setting a Shakespearean Stage
Two tragic hearts kept six feet apart! We took cues from some of Shakespeare’s famous prose and penned copy that spoke to the year’s unprecedented circumstances. An illustration of The Bard dressed in bunny slippers modeled the recommended attire for the evening—comfort couture—but encouraged the audience, “To thine own self be true” in their at-home approach to celebrating.
All Treats, No Tragedies
Attendees received their gala-in-a-box before the curtain rose on this virtual bash. Upon opening, they found a trove of neatly packaged and presented goodies, including a Romeo and Juliet-themed cocktail kit in a custom muslin bag, recipe cards for a midsummer night’s snack and quarantine comfort food and sweet treats wrapped with poetic stickers.
